Where is your sense of urgency?

Goals don't just happen by themselves. True goals happen because you take one step at a time. All progress comes from well-chosen, individual steps that are broken down into manageable pieces. Goals should be realistic and produce results. Most people set goals but they have no idea what steps to take before you set out on achieving those goals. As you set your goals, take the time to think out or brainstorm with others to determine which are the important steps to take, and in what order.

Have you ever looked back on an event in your life for a frame of reference, using it to determine the steps that will lead to success? The hazard here is to let the past limit what you think is achievable.

As people age, our entire life has been full of experiences. What sometimes happens is that we think we don't need new experiences since we've accomplished so much.

The opposite is actually true.

In order to keep living, new experiences are needed on a continuous basis. If you're not moving forward in life, you're moving towards death. And that certainly isn't the point I want to be moving towards. Oh, don't get me wrong, I truly believe that each one of us will die at some point in our lives, and when my time comes I will be ready to accept moving to a new world.

In the meantime, you can bet I'll be living life to its fullest, enjoying every minute of every day. Think about people who know the end is near, how it changes them so they begin to appreciate all that they have been given and people that surround them. Why is an imminent death needed to spur this change? I don't believe it should be necessary, I believe in living life with no regrets, and that includes spending time having fun with the people I love.

I've been asked, "Why do you continually want to change things when they are working good right now?"

This question caused me to sit back and reflect for a while. Why is it that I keep wanting to move to the next step, a better place, life on my terms? As I examined my own thought process, I started to identify why this was so for me. I truly believe that if we continue to do the same things day after day, month after month, year after year, these same things begin to lose their effectiveness. The world is constantly changing and evolving, and in order to move with the world we need to keep evolving as well. If we don't, we quickly get left behind. Ah-ha! THAT's what happens to some when they retire, they get left behind! Take a look around you at the people you know who have retired in the past 3-5 years. Are they changing, upgrading, and evolving, or are they sitting still, being left behind, or maybe even moving backwards? If you're not growing, your dieing.

If you really want to thrive in retirement, you have to realize there will be challenges along the way. You may have to constantly push yourself to move forward to make things happen. You'll have to continually keep your eye focused into the future. Consider this: when you were 20 years old, how far out did you plan? I'd bet you planned to live at least until you are 60 or 70, even if you didn't know exactly what would happen between the ages of 20 and 60. So when you are 70, don't you think it might be important to plan to live to at least 100? And when you're 100, what would happen if you plan to live until you're 120, or 140? Now you might say, ‘that's ridiculous, I'll never live until I'm 140'. How do you know? If you say you won't you're probably right. It will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

So let me ask you this, how much longer do you plan to live? As you set your goals on the future, how does it change what you do today?

Stress Reduction with Space Walking

Walking is excellent for rejuvenating the body. Our beating heart and circulating blood infuses our tissues with energy giving oxygen and removes the toxins that cause physical and mental discord. What most people don’t realize is that walking can be an excellent exercise for our other heart, the one we often refer to as our soul or spirit. I call this space-walking and the benefits go far beyond a traditional stroll in the park. Let me explain.

To the casual passerby space-walking looks the same as plain old everyday one-foot-in-front-of-the-other walking. But, inside the space-walker, the symphony of the spheres sings in perfect harmony with the sparrow’s song; the wind through the grass; the beating of every heart of every created being. Sound impossible? Not at all, Space-walking is not only possible but is easy once you know how.

As we navigate through our daily routine our senses remain engaged by things and our minds by thoughts. For instance, when we enter a room we note the things that occupy that room. We see the coffee cup on the table next to the couch on which Aunt Bertha is blissfully entangled in her afternoon nap. But there is something in the room of great value and it rarely gets noticed: space. That’s right, simple, all enveloping space.

When we pay attention to space instead of the objects that define it, something very magical begins to take place. Our minds slow down and our bodies relax. Then we begin to see our world in a most beautiful and wondrous way. Our lives are forever and incredibly enriched simply by acknowledging space. Here’s why.

Both saints and scientists tell us that all things come from nothing. David Bohm, a quantum mechanical theorist considered by Einstein to be one of the best in his field, calls this nothing “implicate order.” From the nothing of implicate order all creation is spun like the web from a spider. From the nothing comes the basic building block of life, the wave. Waves create particles and particles create atoms. Then atoms create molecules which then crate stars and cars and candy bars. That’s Creation 101 in a nutshell.

Everything we see comes from primordial nothing. When we become aware of nothing we travel back to our birthplace as it were. Coming home nurtures both body and soul. It feels good and, as we will see in a moment, is so good for us.

Now space is not nothing. It is simply the emptiness between two objects. Space can contain air, radio waves, odors, dust mites, water vapor and so on. But to the mind, space represents nothing so we can use space as our gateway to bliss and harmony. So now let’s lace up our walking shoes and learn how to space-walk.

Start out with a gentle walk in pleasant surroundings. As you walk begin to notice, not birds or cars or plants but the space between these things. Find the space between the trees, between the branches and then find the space between the leaves. Don’t look at the clouds look into the vastness between the clouds. Anywhere you see two things note the space between them.

You can use sound to find space as well. Listen to the even fall of your feet on the ground then find the silence, the space between your footfalls. Listen to the distant whine of a siren. Listen intently until siren finely fades into silent space. Space is everywhere. You only need to become aware of it to begin space-walking.

Are you getting the idea? Now you are ready for the final step. This is the most important part of space-walking. Once you find space don’t look at it as if it were just another object to be identified. Your mind will become quickly bored if all you do is identify space. The mind likes stunning vistas and juicy problems to sink its mental teeth into. Space is neither of these.

Here’s the trick, the magic of finding your soul and filling your heart. Once you find space, peer intently into it as if it was a thick fog and you are waiting to see what will come out of it. Look into the depth and breadth of every space and pay close attention to, not only what you see but what you feel. Don’t try and find something in space. Wait to see what it offers you. It will not be what you expect. It will be more in every way.

Here is an excerpt from an email I got from Nancy, a new space-walker.

“After our conversation this morning I went out for a run. The movement was so majestic

it brought tears to my eyes. The most profound phenomenon during this run was that all

the animals I passed did not move away. Several times during this magnificent hour I

held back tears from joy. I noticed the air wasn't "just air" it was a silky living presence

waving its way around me.”

Start space-walking slow and become more active as you learn how to hold the silence within the space. Nancy was actually a space-jogger. Of course you can do space-walking with any activity like tennis, rollerblading or just sitting and watching Aunt Bertha enjoy the bliss of stolen sleep, the space between the moments of our lives.

Eating Right to Improve your Personal Life

Eating Right to Improve your Personal Life
How to live healthier

The main thing to a healthier you, is to eat right exercise and visit your family doctor regularly. This is all part of a healthier you and if your healthier you will feel better about your self. One of the biggest problems we have today is that most people do not eat right. While the world is wising up, they still fall short of proper eating habits, since we are rushed by a face paced world.

What do I have to do to eat right?
Eating right is a hard thing to do for some of us and for others it is easier to do. Eating healthy is a big problem these days. For some of us it is hard to buy healthier food due to the fact it cost more to fix meals the right way. There are a lot of people that are just making it in the real word with out having to buy a loaf of bread that cost $2.50 a loaf when they can get a loaf for $.50 so what do they do get the $.50 loaf and knowing that its bad for them but that? all they can afford. So eating right can be hard for you too. We have options. You can grow your own home garden; bake your own bread for a fraction of the cost and so on.

What are some of the things I can eat?
Some of the things you can eat right are vegetables, dairy products, high-protein dishes and so on. You need a certain amount of fat, carbs, etc, which helps to keep you healthy.
You can get a list from your family doctor or you can go to the library to get information on the basic four food groups. If you cannot afford to eat right then maybe you should not eat as much. In addition, do some excising; excising is always good for you. Exercise will increase your health, even if you cannot afford the four basic groups of nutritious foods. In addition, you have many services available to you, which can offer you food supplies.

How do I learn how to eat right?
If you want to learn how eat right you can read about it in books from the local library or maybe you will want to talk to your doctor. Your doctor might be able to tell you how to go about doing this and the right way for your body. You cannot just jump in and change everything about you overnight. You have to take time to start and to learn. For some of us that have been eating wrong all of our life, this would be hard to do over night. Then again, others may not have any problems with it. You want to consider your position and move forward.

Will I feel better if I eat right?
You will feel a lot better if you eat right. Eating right has a lot to do with how we feel. If we lack nutrients, it can make one feel depressed, ill, etc. Since, we get vitamins from our foods, you may want to include natural regimens of vitamins in your daily schedule also.

The right vitamins we need every day to make us feel good about our self. We get many vitamins from what we eat. Vitamins are what make us feel like a person. So if you eat right and get the right vitamins daily that your body needs to function you will feel a lot better about your self and that will help you to improve your personal life.

An Awful Day, the Meditation Way, Part 1

This is part one of a two part article on how to relieve stress at work and at home.  We all have lousy days from time to time.  Days where nothing seems to go our way.  How is it that some people manage to come out unharmed, while others fall prey to anger, frustration, and anxiety?  In this article, we'll explore a stereotypical awful day and see how one might deal with it in the normal way, as well as, the "meditation way."

7:48 AM
You wake up later than you were supposed to because your alarm didn't turn on for some reason.

Normal way – Your heart rate suddenly jumps up as you realize you're late and panic sets in.  You leap out of bed, feeling a great deal of anxiety.

Meditation way – You realize that what's done is done and there is no reason to panic, because that will not get you to work any faster.  Instead, you take a deep breath and get out of bed.  You calmly plan what things you'll need to do to get yourself to work as quickly as possible.  Incidentally, you could have woken up on time without the need for an alarm if you had told yourself you wanted to wake up at a certain time during meditation the night before.  In this way, you can program your mind to wake you up automatically.

7:52 AM
As you rush to get ready, you bump into the bed post, hurting your big toe.

Normal way – You yell out a few obscenities and hobble along feeling your anger levels rising.

Meditation way – You place your hands around your toes and feet, close your eyes, take three deep breaths, and imagine your toe feeling wonderful.  You visualize your toe feeling better and within a few seconds, the pain is no longer noticeable.  You then continue with your day.

8:45 AM
Because you left the house late, you find yourself in bumper to bumper traffic on the freeway.

Normal way – You begin to get angrier with each passing minute as you stop and go in traffic.  Your heart rate is higher than normal and you notice that you're tightly clenching the steering wheel.

Meditation way – You realize that there is nothing you can do about the traffic, so you decide to put your mind to good use.  You take a few deep breaths with your eyes wide open and you become keenly aware of everything around you.  You focus your attention on the road and the cars ahead of you.  In this heightened state of awareness, you focus all of your attention on the act of driving, thus, forgetting about the fact that you're late.  You heart rate is normal and you feel good.

9:30 AM
You arrive to work only to find out that the meeting you were rushing to get to was cancelled.

Normal way – Your anger levels continue to increase as you recall the trouble you went through to get to work and how bad this day has already been.  You spend the next few minutes talking to coworkers about how upset you are about this cancellation and end up getting yourself even more worked up.

Meditation way – You are happy because this means you did not miss the meeting and you now have more time to prepare for it.  You excuse yourself and go to your office, where you take a minute to collect yourself.  You simply close your eyes, take three deep breaths and focus on your breathing for the next 30-60 seconds.  You feel great and are ready to tackle the rest of your day.

1:50 PM
The stress builds up during the day as you have one meeting after another and interact with coworkers you don't get along with.  You have about 10 minutes before your next meeting.

Normal way – You spend that time having a cup of coffee and staring blankly at your computer, lost in thought.  The more you think about your day, the more stressed you feel and you begin to feel a slight pain in your stomach and chest.

Meditation way – You find a quiet place where you won't be interrupted and you spend the next 10 minutes meditating.  You decide to use a simple Counting Meditation where you focus all of your attention on counting from one to five (Link to a meditation you can use is at the end of the article).  You find that this helps you lower your heart rate and reduce your stress effectively.  After your meditation, you have a refreshing glass of water and feel energized to continue with your meetings.

The day is only half over.  In Part 2, I'll uncover what happens the rest of the day, also showing you how you can prepare for a restful sleep to start your next day the right way.

Methods in which to end panic attacks

Millions of people worldwide suffer from panic attacks, which can often control their lives.  Are you an individual who has experienced a high level of stress and anxiety?  Do you feel as if these attacks have taken control of your mind and body?  Do you fear as if you no longer have control over your being?  You need to know that there are proven methods which will permanently end panic attacks that occur frequently.

The reason that these attacks can be so debilitating is the toll that they take on you mentally and physically.  For an individual who experiences these attacks, they frequently make it hard for him/her to live anywhere close to what can be called a “normal” routine daily.  They can be impossible to predict as to when/where they will take place.  Once these attacks occur, they have the potential to escalate into something very dangerous for the individual’s welfare.  That is why you must be pro-active in wanting to seek treatment to end this disorder.

The most important step towards ending panic attacks is to try and figure out what triggers them in the first place.  You as an individual would be advised to seek professional help, instead of trying to treat them on your own.  Consult with a licensed doctor to figure out what is the trigger(s) which cause these attacks to take place.  A trigger could be the result of a traumatic event which has occurred in your life, (which happened with me individually as I, too, once suffered from panic attacks which developed into an anxiety order).  The individual constantly re-playing the event in his/her mind exacts a toll on his/her brain.  Another trigger could be the fear of something – flying in a jet, being in the dark, a fear of heights, the potential loss of a job, a potential health problem, and etc.  When the trigger begins to happen, often the brain fantasizes the worst possible final scenario.  This often leads to an actual attack.

Many doctors now educate their patients who suffer from panic attacks by providing them with behavior-modification exercises.  A well known behavioral exercise has been developed in which a patient counts down from 20 to 1.  The individual participates in this exercise if he/she believes that an attack is oncoming.  The individual is instructed to only give the attack 20 seconds to actually take place.  The patient treats the attack personally, as an affront to his/her very being.  The patient is to only allow 20 seconds for any impending attack.  Not one second more.  The patient will not allow it to happen once he reaches the count of 1.  Through this exercise, the patient learns that it is he/she who is the one in control of his mind and body.  Not the panic attack.  Statistical results have proven that by engaging in this exercise often, the result is that eventually any attack itself often never occurs.

The individual who suffers from panic attacks might also be told to get involved with relaxation exercises, yoga, and/or breathing exercises to regulate and control his/her level of stress and anxiety.   Getting involved in a fitness or workout routine has also proven to be successful, as this method also reduces stress.  Again, if you are the individual who has experienced these attacks, then by all means make an attempt to do something about it.  Seek treatment.

Choose to end panic attacks by not allowing them to take complete control of your being.  Doing nothing about them is the worst thing that you could possibly do, which could lead to serious, and potentially permanent damage inflicted on your mind and body.  Now that you have read this article and might seek further information, I highly encourage you to visit the following site:  http://controlyouranxiety57.com.

Twelve years ago, I went through a very traumatic experience in my life. Because of that I eventually was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder through a medical professional in the field of psychiatry. I had many panic attacks that I often found to be overwhelming. At times, I feel as if I was not in control of the thoughts coming from my mind. Through behavior modification exercises provided by a trained medical professional, and through loving support of friends and family members, I overcame this disorder. I wish to offer support and guidance to those individuals who are going through the same ordeal as I did.

Strategies that Help Improve your Personal Life

Strategies that Help Improve your Personal Life

Setting up strategies to improve your personal life is only one step to achieve your goals. You have to create plans, goals and take the steps to follow through. Once you have your details gathered, you can start to set up strategies.

How to plan long-term strategies:
Strategies are approaches we take to reach our plans. Our line of attack determines what comes of these plans and goals. When you create long-term goals, you have to provide descriptions, which leads up to using strategies to achieve.

You also have to state what goals you intend to achieve when you create your plans and set the strategies to achieve them. Keep in mind that goals are changes you are willing to make to accomplish something. The goals should be translated so that it develops into a real action. When you take action, you are working toward the next step to recall your measurements, values, and the difference between each. This helps you to stay in accord with your goals and plans.

Sometimes you have to work backwards to accomplish your goals. Sometimes you have to step back to view your goals, making sure that your strategies are working in accord with your actions. When you see that your actions are not working in accord, this is when you want to step back and say, I need to make changes. You will change your strategies to work in harmony with your goals.

You should already have your plans written down on paper. If you haven? started now is the time to write your plans. Once you have your plans down you can boost your energies so that you have the willingness to act out on your plans. If your plan is lacking in some areas, do not worry. Take it one step at a time and act on the plans you have written down. You can add to your plans later.

How to start planning:
If you haven? started the process of planning, speak. Just start talking about what you want to accomplish in your life. Once you begin, speaking you will develop new ideas, which you can write down on paper.

During your self-talk arrangement, be sure to take notes. Remembering specific details is a way to recall what you want to do. Some of us fail to take notes, which information drifts away. Instead of adding fire to fire, throw some water on the flames and register your plans with paper.

How to write long-term goals:
You want to write you long-term goals focusing on your short-term goals first. Your short-term goals should work in harmony with your long-term goals. You can write a daily schedule that builds up to our plans and goals. For instances, this week on Monday through Sunday I intend to do: Write down each day what you intend to accomplish on your calendar or schedule.

In your plan or calendar not the things, you intend to make essential first. Then work toward taking down your tasks. For instance, on Tuesday start working through the large jobs first and break down to the simple tasks as you move along. On the third day, write yourself an intention declaration. Use 3x5 note cards to tell you what you intend to do. Once you finish, your duties offer yourself a reward each time you accomplish your intentions.

Next tell your friends and family what you intend to do for your future. Ask your friends and family if they can give you a hand from time to time when they see you failing. Tell your friends and family to offer you a pat on the back, or some reward for each time you accomplish your plans and goals.

Improve your Personal Life with Vitamins

Improve your Personal Life with Vitamins

Improving your personal life with multivitamins

Vitamins are very essential to everyone? body to keep it going. Some vitamins are needed on a daily basis and others not so often.

We get vitamins from our food and then we need to use extra vitamins to get the full amount needed. Getting the right amount of vitamins daily helps to produce your blood cells and they change the food to energy.  One of the best vitamins I discovered is the prenatal vitamin. Even if you are not pregnant, the vitamins will restore lost nutrients.

You have two different kinds of vitamins that you can purchase. One of them is a fat-soluble that is stored in the body in the liver and fatty tissues. Only take fat-soluble vitamins as recommended because you can store too much. When storing too much fat-soluble vitamins it can be poisonous and even cause death. The fat-soluble vitamin is the A and D type.

The second type of vitamin is the water-soluble and it will dissolve in water just as it says. Don? worry about taking too much of they vitamin because you will pass what isn? needed through the urine. A water-soluble vitamin is to be taken on as a daily supplement. The water-soluble vitamin is the C and some B.

Multivitamins will not harm you and are to be taken daily. When taking a multivitamin it helps to fight off illness and give you the vitamins that you aren? getting in your food.

Your daily diet of food may not contain all vitamins a person needs daily. Many people just don? eat the right food like the most popular fast foods. Some people want to lose five pounds by next week so they go on a fad quick weight loss diet that doesn? contain the right and enough good vitamins.

The farmer that grows some of the food your eating can sometimes be the blame. The farmer is out to make money and wants his vegetable and fruits to be large, beautiful and attractive, most of all to grow fast and get a bigger crop. To make his crop grow for him he has to add chemicals to it by fertilizing, spraying, and even more water all of which can reduce the vitamins out of the crop. If the crop is being shipped it is sometimes wrapped tight, coated and sprayed to keep its color and help prevent spoiling while being transported to it? destination.

Multivitamins are helpful if you are sick and stressed. Being sick or stressed it takes more vitamins to build you back up and repair the damage that has been caused to you body.

The lack of the right vitamin can put a person into high risk for some diseases and your general health will drop. Some Dr doesn? like their patients to take vitamin supplements because they take to many or the wrong kinds.  It is known that people who take a multivitamin on a daily basis is generally in better health than those who don?.

There are so many different vitamins on the shelf now to choose from that it can be very confusing.  First, understand you body and needs and even ask the Dr what might be the best ones to take. Your body will balance itself out naturally when taking the right vitamins.

It doesn? matter what kind or brands of multivitamin you take just make sure it is a good one. After taking your new vitamin, for 30 days and you don? feel better or see a change get a different one. Feeling better and taking, the right vitamin is good for everyone young and old.

Maybe You Uncovered The Root Of Your Anxiety

Many have humorous notions about what brings on anxiety attacks. There are all types of myths and disinformation. Anxiety attacks are problematical to cope with as it is without having folk look at you strangely, like you are afflicted with some variety of transmissible disease. Worse yet some folk banter round the word insane when making reference to folk with anxiety attacks.
People who suffer from manic depression may actually experience episodes showing a depressed mental state - a sense of worthlessness and being unloved may start to corrupt the person's mind. Sometimes it's actually quite easy to overlook such symptoms and not be able to help one's self or others who are suffering from depression for that matter.

A large amount of folk actually experience erratic changes in their moods, sometimes, these so-called mood swings may not just be due to PMS ( pre-menstrual syndrome ) or stress. Postpartum depression is actually a lot like depression, but only new mums are the probable victims of this sickness.

There are basically a lot possible reasons why postpartum depression happens : birth as everyone knows isn't as easy as pie, exact physical stress from giving birth is one of the main reasons why postpartum depression occurs. A lot of people who are exerting way too much of their brain power usually exhaust not only their physical strength when joining in diverse multi-tasking activities, they also have a tendency to over extend their brains up to the point when it plainly wishes some good old time for relaxation.

Psychotherapy, a preferred kind of depression treatment really includes short-term therapy sessions, generally from 10 to twenty weeks promising to really be in a position to make positive results for the depression patient.

Never overlook the various symptoms, depressed people often exhibit uncharacteristic behaviors like all of a sudden lacking interest in one's past-times ( or other stuff that he often enjoys ), sleeps too much or basically aren't able to get some shut-eye, suddenly becoming anti-social, talks lots about death or being a meaningless person.

A large amount of people with panic episodes believe they are going to be unable to find full control of themselves. The fact is that almost all of the anxiety attack occurs in the mind. Folk around the individual having the attack rarely notice they are having a difficulty. The fear of shaming yourself can actually make the anxiety worse. It is the feeling of losing control in front of others that can start the anxiety attack. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy except that people customarily never lose control over themselves in an anxiety attack.
Several people feel that when an anxiety attack happens that they're going to pass out in a communal area. They imagine that they will be in the middle of a grocery store lying prone and comatose in the floor. Worse than that some people believe that they will have an attack and nobody will be around. They worry that they are going to be strewn in some ditch somewhere.

The truth is the fainting is not normal with folk having a panic fit. Fainting is mostly the result of not an adequate amount of oxygen going to the brain. When someone is having an anxiety attack their heart is generally pumping hard to distribute oxygen rich blood through out the body. An individual may feel light headed because they could be hyperventilating but this typically does not lead to a fainting spell.

A new myth about anxiety attacks is that they are in some way caused by the heart. People believe they're having a cardiac arrest. They feel tension or pain in their chest, their heart is beating fast, they may be sweating and their respirations have risen. It is easy to see where the myth came from but the heart isn't the reason for an anxiety attack not does an anxiety attack result in a heart attack.

Coronaries usually happen when the heart is under stress that's during physical exertion. Panic episodes occur at anytime. Coronaries are generally abated by resting and reducing the stress on the heart. A panic fit often goes on and someone must soothe themselves mentally before it actually begins to decline. It's not a matter of control ; it is more a reason of stopping control.

Cyclothemia - characterized by a slight similarity with Manic or Bipolar depression whereby the individual suffering from this psychological sickness may sometimes have dreadful changes in one's moods, Seasonal Affective Disorder - indicated by falling in a groove only during particular seasons.

The best way to reduce your anxiety of your heart is to see your general practitioner and have an EKG. Once you realize there's nothing to stress about it should reduce your anxiety over having a cardiac arrest.

Are You Experiencing Shift Work Stress? Then It Might Be Time To Change Your Light Bulb!

If you’re experiencing shift work stress then you’re not alone.  Just getting up at 2am is putting unwanted stress on your body because quite frankly - we’re not like nocturnal animals that come to life and thrive in the dark!

So what is stress?

Stress comes in various forms but essentially when we feel stressed we feel totally overwhelmed – as if we have little control over what is happening or what is about to happen to us.  Stress makes us focus on bad outcomes and arouses a sense of fear inside us.

If we’re at work and we’re under severe stress, we can sometimes feel like we’re locked into an unbearable situation.

As shift workers we’re more than likely to already be feeling fatigued and exhausted so when you add stress into the equation – it can certainly become a dangerous combination.

But the good news is that this feeling of helplessness is actually a learned behaviour which means that we can quite simply retrain ourselves to ‘unlearn’ this behaviour.

You see, the key to eliminating stress in your life is to acquire the same skills used by people who do not become stressed even though they may be facing some very trying and extremely difficult situations.

Now I’m sure you know people like this.  They just appear unflappable – as if nothing fazes them.

And all that they are doing differently is changing the way that they think. They are simply just changing the light bulb that is going off in their head.

This is so important to recognise because essentially it is your thinking that is causing you to become stressed.

Now when you’re at work and you become highly stressed, your thinking becomes irrational.  You assign bad outcomes to events and arouse a fear response within you.  You also become highly emotional, your sleeping patterns are disturbed and you can feel totally exhausted.

So to beat stress you simply need to retrain your thinking and get rid of all of those negative thoughts.  Learn how to think more calming and positive thoughts instead of brooding on negative outcomes, and when you do - you will be well on your way to banishing your shift work stress.
